SNV Tanzania is looking for a: General Support Officer
Reporting to the Finance Officer Based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (Local contract)

SNv Netherlands Development Organization is working in over 33 developing countries across the world in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe. The emphasis of our work is on poverty reduction and promotion of good governance through
(1) increasing production, income and employment and (2) increasing access to basic services in the sectors of water, sanitation & hygiene, agriculture and renewable energy. SNV has worked in Tanzania since 1971 and currently has offices in Dar es Salaam, Mwanza and Arusha whilst maintaining its physical presence across the Country through its various projects and activities in collaboration with national organizations as local capacity builders.
These positions are based in Dar es Salaam.
Purpose;
The General Support Officer executes daily financial, personnel administrative, logistical and secretarial support, based on the relevant administrative, financial and HR guidelines and directions and in consultation with the Finance Officer, in order to enable the organisation to deliver on its primary responsibilities.
One of the positions is oriented towards financial tasks, with primary reporting to the country Finance Officer.
The other position is part of a project funded by the Master Card Foundation on supporting youth employment, and has a stronger logistical component, with reporting to the Project Manager.
Main Responsibilities
General Support Officer, Finance administration support Record financial transactions in ledger system
Prepare and check monthly, quarterly and annual financial accounts
Forecasts and project depletion for submission to the Finance Officer
Follow up on receipts and payments
Reconcile bank balances and manage liquidity levels, based on guidelines of the Finance Officer and Financial procedures Take care of petty cash and supplier payment Correction account for SNV Accounts and accruals for all prepayments costs
Booking for all SNV bank accounts
Prepare salaries (Tax and PPF), security allowance for EUN,
School claims reconciliation and calculations for the booking Prepare payments for Local Capacity Builders (LCB's) engaged both at Sector's and National level
Transfer of funds to all offices
Logistics Service
Prepare work advice for advisors allocated at the Country office Facilitate all the payments for the workshop or meetings in Dar es Salaam
Ensure that goods and services are procured as per requirement and are distributed throughout the country
Supervise and facilitate utilization of materials within the project, effectively liaising with clients and suppliers
Databases:
Process mutation forms, ensure time writing database is updated and record relevant data in databases as requested
Candidate Profile
The General Support Officer shall possess the following qualifications:
Education:
Degree in accounting, financial Management or related fields, (MBA preferably)
Added advance Professional accounting qualifications (such as CPA,CIMA, ACCA)
Work Experience and Knowledge:
Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience in a similar position
Fluency in written and spoken English
Computer literate, proficient with MS Word, Excel and financial applications
3 relevant traceable references must be provided with the application
Interest and experience in working in an organization with a development mission
Proven commitment to poverty alleviation
Qualifications and/or experience in information systems and especially SAP is a preference
Personality:
Proactive personality and of high integrity
Good communicator who is a critical thinker and has a strong personality
A professional orientation to work Strong analytical and strategic skills
Ability to work systematically under pressure
Contract Duration:2 years renewable
Desired start date: ASAP

Key outputs:
Service and Kitchen Management
• Support Executive Chef in all kitchen management duties
• Assume responsibilities of Executive Chef in their absence
• Ensure all menus are followed and food standard is excellent at all times
• Oversee the choice of recipes and train each chef on the proper use of the ingredients
• Check and control all preparation of dishes and food before it goes out
• Make personal contact with guests on arrival and throughout their stay to understand special dietary requirements and enhance the guest experience
• Continuous encouragement and training of staff to provide the best food experience to guests
• Work with managers in creating to new ideas and situational dining to enhance the guest food experience
• Be flexible when receiving unexpected request from guests and ensure you are able to accommodate unusual dietary requirements
• Manage Kitchen Hygiene: Perform 1 – 3 minute cleaning tasks and set the example that everyone in the kitchen is responsible for hygiene, safety and cleaning
People
•Oversee and ensure good communication within your team including, holding a monthly and daily morning meeting with kitchen team
• Continuous training, skills development and motivation of all kitchen staff – including on the job training, monthly food workshops, training on kitchen equipment and hygiene • Management of staff administration, including - staff roster and leave structure and staff attendance register, staff inductions and personnel file management
• Manage staff performance and ensure all staff understand their responsibilities
• Take disciplinary action when necessary as per company policies
• Assist with hiring and screening of all staff – ensure the right people are in the right positions
• Work with Staff chefs to ensure the staff food is delicious and nutritious
Stock Management and Supplier Relations
• Responsible for all food orders
• Responsible for stock management and stock take of all food on the last day of each month with senior chef and one chef in training
• Manage Budget and food costs with Executive Chef
• Manage all store rooms and deep freezes
• Have knowledge of products, suppliers, prices and current stock
• Organise ‘911’ food section in your deep freezer and dry store
• Keep a diary to organise all daily, weekly and monthly information
• Ensure there are sufficient cleaning materials, and chemicals in stock
• Check and rotate stocks in fridges and freezers daily
• Management of empty containers and Tupperware to ensure no unauthorised food leave the kitchen
• Train all senior chefs on acceptable and unacceptable quality for receiving goods
• Talk to suppliers, Stone Town and Arusha Procurement departments about the quality you need and send anything else back
• Liaise with the manager on the ‘up to the moment head count’ to ensure the correct amount of food is prepared.
• Ensure that equipment is in working order and that it is always returned to the correct storage place
• Maintain good working relationships with suppliers
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
• Kitchen management – including all kitchen administration, general hygiene and people management • Budget management
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
• Formal Chef Qualification
• At least 3+ years senior Chef Experience required in 5 star hotels or lodges
SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Spoken and written English
• Computer literate
